Karen Kendra Holmes: “Bridging the Gap Between Church and Transgender” 

Karen Kendra Holmes is an active member of Rockville United Church (UCC/Presbyterian). She works for the Federal Government as a Safety Officer. A TEDx Speaker, Karen is a radio host on WPFW 89.3 FM on the Inside Out LGBTQ Show and a columnist writer for Baltimore OUTLoud newspaper under “Trans Lives”. She was selected in 2017 by LGBTQ Nation as one of the “Top 50 Successful Transgender Americans You Need to Know”.

With the Maryland Defense Force under the Maryland National Guard, Karen served as a Staff Sergeant with Force Protection and in the Honor Guard. In 2013 – after her transition and out of 23,000 soldiers – she received the national “Soldier of the Year” awarded by the State Guard Association of the US.
