Dr. Ronald Grim
"The Price of 'Progress': Mapping the American Transformation of the 19th Century"

Ron, one of our newest BPC friends, has curated an exhibition currently on display at the Boston Public Library. This exhibition, "America Transformed: Mapping the 19th Century," uses a variety of maps and related graphic objects to tell the story of how America's physical and cultural geography was radically altered in that time. The traditional interpretation is that this transformation was "progress". Thursday, Ron will ask us: at what price progress?

Ron retired in May 2018 as Boston Public Library's Curator of Maps. From 1982 to 2005, he worked with cartographic collections at The Library of Congress.
