7/1 10 AM WORSHIP: WHAT DO OUR SCRIPTURES SAY ABOUT OUR TREATMENT OF CHILDREN?

  • Bethesda Presbyterian Church 7611 Clarendon Road Bethesda, MD, 20814 United States (map)

Here's Sunday's Bulletin -- with background on page 5 of our Howard Thurman Jesus and the Disinherited book discussion at 11:15 in the Fellowship Hall, led by spiritual director and racial justice organizer Therese Taylor-Stinson!

At our 10 am Worship this Sunday, we continue with the series "Our Scriptures: From Taking Them Literally to Taking Them Seriously". We will hear the story in 2 Kings 2 of the prophet Elisha reigning terror down on 42 children -- they are mauled by bears! -- as well as the last verse of Psalm 137 which also seems to endorse the murder of children.

What to do with passages such as these? And -- in these sad days of the mauling of children in our southern borderlands -- what does Jesus have to say about our treatment of little ones? Join Us, as we celebrate as one in Worship and in post-Worship discussion God's love and justice this Sunday!
