JUNE 3 11 AM: "RECLAIMING JESUS: FAITH IN A TIME OF CRISIS"

  • Bethesda Presbyterian Church 7611 Clarendon Road Bethesda, MD, 20814 United States (map)

On May 24, over a thousand Christians participated in a worship service at National City Christian Church followed by a candlelight vigil to the White House (pictured). The service and vigil arose from a simple declaration: "Reclaiming Jesus: A Confession of Faith in a Time of Crisis" -- linked here, its summary here. The confession's six principles include rejections of racial bigotry, attacks on immigrants and refugees, authoritarianism, sexual violence, the normalization of lying in political life, and ethnic nationalism.

This Sunday's Message will focus on the Reclaiming Jesus movement -- including the showing of a four-plus minute video prepared by its leaders -- based on lectionary scriptures from 1 Samuel, 2 Corinthians, and Mark's Gospel. How can we -- each of us -- imbibe afresh this Spirit of Pentecost: as a church and in our daily lives?
