Here's Sunday's Bulletin. … and Here's a one-page October Church Calendar.
This Sunday, six women and men will be canonized in Rome. One of them is the martyred Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero (1917-1980).
Romero's canonization is a long-anticipated cause for celebration for our nearly half-million Salvadoran neighbors in Metro DC -- over 5% of their homeland's population that have fled here. In the midst of a civil war that led to the mass exodus north -- a war abetted by U.S. military support of various juntas -- Romero underwent a spiritual transformation, aligning his discipleship wholly with the dispossessed.
This Sunday in Worship -- as we continue to hear Job's story and listen in to Jesus' direct words to a rich man -- we will hear the dramatic conclusion of Romero's final homily in his country's National Cathedral, one day prior to his assassination by a paramilitary death squad. The Message: "Here's Looking At Us" -- how Jesus' loving gaze at the rich man is directed at us and our discipleship response. Join Us!
