Personal — Passionate — Progressive
We take in -- both in adult Christian education and in Worship -- the very first healing story of the very first gospel written. Jesus' act of healing in a synagogue on the Sabbath speaks in a bold and fresh way how God's grace wreaks holy disorder into our carefully ordered universe we sometimes call "church". Listening to the scripture, we at BPC ask ourselves & our guests: How can we actively join hands with some of the great healing forces surrounding us -- places such as NIH, Walter Reed, Bethesda Cares, National Naval Medical, Del Ray Club? What might it mean to be a part of this uptown church named Bethesda, not to mention the church that actually named this town of Bethesda? Here's the link to our ever-colorful Bulletin. Speaking of healing opportunities: *Note the special May event announced on the final printed bulletin page*! Come, join us at BPC this Sunday in listening for God's "Yes!" to us, that we might better respond with ours to God!
February 22, Lent begins. This ancient church season is certainly not just for our Catholic and Anglican sisters and brothers anymore!
We observe the first of Lent's 40 days of taking up our crosses and joining Jesus along his journey to Jerusalem with an Ash Wednesday observance. The meditative service runs 7:00-7:30/7:45p. Come, join us for this meaningful first moment and movement into our Lenten journey! There will be plenty of candles, Taize music ... and blessed silence. Ashes in the sign of the cross will be marked on the foreheads of those who choose to receive them.

There's 11a Worship, where Jesus is transfigured before our very eyes! Well, in lieu of that, we will discover ways his transfiguration experience speaks to each of us on the cusp of Lent. Worship Prelude: a 12-minute multimedia celebration of African-American History Month. Worship Proper: A biblical storyteller, a Bethesda Cares moment, a beautiful solo of a powerful spiritual, and a dynamic sermon: "Lent: From 'Being Good' to Responding to God".
Here's our Ever-Colorful Bulletin -- &, Here's our Adult Christian Education outline (9:45: Be There!) And please join us afterward for our Third Sunday Lunch -- free will offering received (yes, even Presbyterians believe in free will from time to time!)
