The Rev. Chuck Booker-Hirsch
Chuck Booker-Hirsch began his ministry at BPC on June 21. A graduate of San Francisco Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity '94), he comes to Bethesda following 11 fruitful years as Pastor of Northside Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor, MI. A passionate advocate for radical church hospitality and faith-based social justice, he served on the staff of interracial congregations in the barrio of Tucson, AZ and the ghetto of Marin City, CA, and worked for four years resettling Central American refugees in this country seeking sanctuary from torture and slaughter in their homelands. Chuck is married to the Rev. Amy Booker-Hirsch, a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) minister and hospice chaplain. They have a 12-years-young son and Sudoku wizard, Drew Booker.

This Sunday's gospel scripture -- heard the world 'round that very day by disciples and seekers of every tongue and land -- is a difficult one for many to understand. Luke 13:1-9 seems to cast a judgmental eye on those who do not repent of their ways. But this scripture is not a promise of punishment.
