Jesus on Tap - Food, Fun, Fellowship, & Faith-Sharing

Photo All are welcomed to join us in the Fireside Room at La Madeleine French Cafe, 7607 Old Georgetown Rd (@ Woodmont) in downtown Bethesda, on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of each month -- 6:30p for supper, 7:30p for theological discussion. Parking is free across the street at Lot 49; La M will validate your ticket.

Come, enjoy the food & food-for-thought. Each meeting, a church member shares about their vocare (calling) -- even beyond their carrera (career). More on our 7:30-8:30p discussion topic, "Vocations: What Is Your Call?" (more information below).

For life's greatest searches, Google cannot help. Perhaps we can! Join us on February 3 and then February 16 (Shrove, or "Fat", Tuesday) for Jesus on Tap! While there is no "tap" on the premises, wine and bottled beer are available with La M's fabulous and affordable cuisine.

"Jesus on Tap" – VOCATIONS

6:30-7:30p – Food & Fellowship
7:30p-8:30 – Food-for-Thought: Vocations

Each session on Vocations will begin at 7:30 pm with the pastor’s
5-10 minute biblical, theological, or ethical excursus on vocations.

For the remainder of the hour, the church member presenting,
guided by the pastor as “interviewer”, will reflect on God’s call
in her/his life guided – at least in part – by the following six questions.

(NOTE: Questions 1 & 5 may prove particularly challenging to many.)

1. Scripture: What biblical narratives instruct you, delight you, and/or may have even motivated you in embracing your calling?

2. Experience: What transcendent moments (“God moments”)/ glimpses of the Holy Spirit did you encounter in the process of discovering your calling? Have you encountered in your calling?

3. Experience: How did/does your vocational discipline reveal the divine within these “hidden treasure” moments (see #2) in a way you would like others to know about and appreciate?

4. Experience: Have you ever struggled with your calling? If so, how?

5. Tradition: How has your faith tradition form and/or inform your calling? How does it, today?

6. Experience/Tradition: Who were and/or are your mentors? How did/have they mediate(d) and/or nurture(d) God’s call to you to serve in your vocation?

Sunday 3/14: "Our Prodigal Father"

Ever hear of the Prodigal Son? Certainly. This Sunday, we focus on his extravagantly wasteful father, running to welcome him home. With that image in mind, all are invited, post-Worship, to join us for a served lunch in our Fellowship Hall for new member Gail Hutchison's riveting personal story, "From Strive to Survive to Thrive." Gail, a Potomac native, has served 20 years in the Outer Banks of NC as a sexual assault services coordinator, running to welcome the wounded home in her prodigally ge… Continue

11 am Worship 3/7: "Listening for God: Why *Not* Me?"

This Sunday's gospel scripture -- heard the world 'round that very day by disciples and seekers of every tongue and land -- is a difficult one for many to understand. Luke 13:1-9 seems to cast a judgmental eye on those who do not repent of their ways. But this scripture is not a promise of punishment. It's a needed Lenten dose of reality, to wit: Instead of asking God, "Why me?" when bad times befall us, we can best listen for God's desire in our lives by asking, "Why not me?" Instea
